The City of Anaheim is founded by 50 German families.

The original settlers of Anaheim came from Bavaria, a southeast German state, and intended to make the land into wine country, but in the 1880’s the entire crop was destroyed. By that time, Anaheim was already incorporated into L.A. county, the second city to join.

On this day October 5th, in 1857, the city of Anaheim is founded by 50 German families. During the 1920’s the Ku Klux Klan set its eyes on Anaheim. It was able to get a number of its members on the city’s board of trustees, and in law enforcement. When the public found out, however, the KKK members were ousted.

Anaheim’s number one source of economy today is tourism, the two biggest attractions being the Anaheim Convention Center and Disneyland. When Disneyland opened, it forever changed the Orange Grove city. Disneyland is by far the largest employer of the city, with over 20,000 workers living there. Anaheim is also known for its sports teams the Anaheim Ducks (movies were made about them as the Mighty Ducks) and the Angels who later changed their name to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
