The incorporation of the City of San Francisco.

San Francisco is one of the most densely populated cities in America.  The city was founded on June 29, 1776 when a fort was built by what would become the Golden Gate Bridge. It wasn’t until the 1848 California Gold Rush that San Francisco became a popular destination. Its population went from 1,000 to 25,000 in a single year!

On this day April 15th, in 1850, the City of San Francisco is incorporated.  Prior to 1821 the territory belonged to Spain, but it then fell into the hands of Mexico. On July 7, 1846 Commodore John D. Sloat claimed the territory for America in the midst of the Mexican-American War. Mexico relinquished its control of the territory to America at the end of the war. On January 30, 1847 the city’s name was officially changed to San Francisco.

San Francisco is a tourist hotspot. It is a unique city. Its hills, culture, fisherman’s wharf, amazing architecture, and Northern California vibe have made it the 35th most visit city worldwide according to according to Euromonitor. It also serves as a financial center for over 30 companies. San Francisco is a must see for any dreamer, thinker, and traveler.
