Cynthia Powell and John Lennon met in school at the Liverpool College of Art. Hearing that Lennon loved the French actress Brigitte Bardot, Powell dyed her hair blonde to catch his eye. They were dating not too long afterward.
It was on this day, August 22nd, in 1968 that Cynthia Powell (Julian Lennon’s mother) unfortunately filed for divorce from John Lennon.
The case was settled outside of court, and Powell was awarded custody of Julian and an additional 100,000 pounds. Julian Lennon followed in his father’s footsteps as a musician, singer, and songwriter.
