Behind Danny Manning, Kansas pulls off an incredible feat and wins the NCAA championship

Sometimes one player can put an entire team on his or her back and take them to greatness.  This was certainly the case with the 1988 Kansas Jayhawks.

It was on this day, April 4th, 1988, that Kansas defeated Oklahoma in the NCAA championship game.  The championship was made possible by the herculean effort contributed by Danny Manning.

Kansas entered the NCAA tournament as a 6 seed.  But they got hot at the right time, and coach Larry Brown was able to have his star player shine even when the opposing team knew he was the primary option.  The championship game saw two rival schools from the Big 12 competing, and Kansas came away victorious, earning their second national championship in school history.
