It was on this day, November 4th, in 1984 that Michael Dell created PCs Limited while he was a student at the University of Texas at Austin. He later changed the company’s name to Dell.

Dell started his business operating out of a condominium. At the time, his company sold between $50,000 and $80,000 worth of PC upgrades, kits, and other components. His business model was based on the idea that there was a potential for consumer savings if they purchased computers directly rather than through a traditional retail chain. His personal touch to customer service attracted business.
