The first ever major league baseball game in New Jersey – the Dodgers beat the Phils in Roosevelt Stadium.

The state of New Jersey was never fortunate enough to recruit a professional baseball team.  However, in the mid 50s, the state did get its first taste of Major League Baseball.

It was on this day, April 19th in 1956, that the first ever major league baseball game was played in New Jersey.  The game was played at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, New Jersey.

In the game, the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Phillies.  The Brooklyn Dodgers would play a total of 7 games in 1956, and 8 games in 1957 at Roosevelt Stadium. In 1958, the Brooklyn Dodgers would move to LA to become the Los Angeles Dodgers, and they never again would play a home game in New Jersey.
