First photo of the Moon (French photographer Louis Daguerre)

Today, snapping a picture of the moon is one of the most popular ways to utilize a cell phone camera.  However, in the mid 1800’s a photo of the moon had never been taken.

On this day, January 2nd, in 1839 – the first ever photo of the moon was taken.  It was taken by a French Photographer named Louis Daguerre.   Louis Daguerre had become famous in 1822 when he invented the Diorama.

Unfortunately, in March of 1839 – Louis Daguerre’s laboratory burned down in a fire – so we have no record of the first ever picture of the moon.
