Francisco Rodriquez 58th Save

Venezuelan born Francisco Jose Rodriguez Sr. is currently one of professional baseball’s best relief pitchers.  Currently pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers, Rodriguez has recorded a total of 291 saves and 36-27 win-loss record.

On this day, September 13th, in 2008, Francisco Rodriguez compiled his 58th save, setting a new Major League Baseball record. His record-breaking save was against the Seattle Mariners, but it would not be his last of the season.  Rodriguez recorded his 60th save a week later, becoming the first Major League relief pitcher to reach that milestone.

The 2008 season ended with Rodriguez having 62 saves and marked his third year leading the MLB in saves.  Rodriguez was traded to the New York Mets, where he spent the 2009-2011 seasons.
