The famous game 6 of the Kings – Lakers series which referee Tim Donaghy later said was fixed by the NBA.

Controversy and sports have always went hand in hand.  And when people think a game is fixed, it stirs up more controversy than almost any other situation.  And in the NBA playoffs in 2002, something fishy happened that is still talked about to this day.

It was on this day, May 31st, 2002, that the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Sacramento Kings in game 6 of the NBA finals.  The win forced a game 7 which of course was good for the NBA as it meant more television ratings.  In game 6, the Lakers were the beneficiary of several questionable calls which helped lead them to victory.

Years later, NBA referee Tim Donaghy alleged that game 6 was fixed by the NBA.  He said that he knew two of the referees in the game would do whatever the NBA told them to do – and he suggested that the NBA told them to make sure the Lakers won.  The Lakers did have 18 more free throw attempts than the Kings in the 4th quarter of that NBA game, however, it was never proven to be fixed.
