Talk show host Geraldo Rivera has nose broken during show when fight breaks out.

Geraldo Rivera is an attorney, author, reporter, journalist, and most famously, a talk show host.  In 1987, he began hosting and producing the daytime talk show “Geraldo” which ran for eleven years.  Due to its controversial guests and theatrical nature, the show gained a reputation as “Trash TV” by Newsweek.

It was on this day, November 3, 1988, that an episode featuring white supremacists, anti-racist skinheads, and Jewish and black activists, resulted in a fight breaking out between John Metzger and Roy Innis.  Among others, Rivera got involved by throwing a few punches at a white supremacist and wound up with a broken nose.  The talk show host chose not to press charges.

It was due to that public brawl that the show’s name changed to “The Geraldo Rivera Show.”  Along with the new title, the content also took a more subdued, serious approach.  Ultimately, the show ended in 1998.
