Hank Aaron hits his 715th home run, breaking Babe Ruth’s record

The steroid era got rid of records which otherwise would have withstood the test of time.  One of these special records was the all-time home run record held by “Hammerin'” Hank Aaron.

It was on this day, April 8th, 1974, that Hank Aaron hit his 715th home run.  Hank passed Babe Ruth’s 714 home run record and the sports world was captivated.

Hank Aaron finished his career with 755 home runs.  Hank’s record stood for 39 years, until Barry Bonds smashed his 756th home run on August 7th, 2007. But Bonds broke the record under a cloud of suspicion of steroids use.  And while Bonds has said that he never knowingly took any illegal steroids, several reports have surfaced stating that he did indeed take steroids at some point.
