Shock jock Howard Stern releases his second book, “Miss America”

Howard Stern is an American radio personality, television host, author, actor, and photographer.  He is most known for his radio show and is labeled a “shock jock” for his outspoken and moderately controversial ways.  Stern describes himself as the “King of All Media.  He has hosted a number of late night television shows, pay-per-view events, and home video releases.  In 1994, he also began a five-month political campaign to be New York’s governor.

On top of all this publicity, Stern wrote two books, “Private Parts” and “Miss America.”  On this day, October 9th, in 1995, Howard Stern releases this second book.  “Miss America” spent 16 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller List.  It became the fastest-selling title in the publisher, ReganBooks’, history.  The cover of the novel features Stern dressed in drag.  The book sold very well—selling more than 1.6 million copies in 1996 alone and holding the title of the number one selling paperback of 1998 on Amazon.com.
