Jimi Hendrix attempts to burn his guitar onstage at London Astoria. He suffers severe burns and is hospitalized, but the footage makes Hendrix an international icon

Jimi Hendrix was known for having a certain type of performance that kept the audience intrigued and wanting more from it. Some would call it the Jimi Hendrix experience because it was just that good to them. He was such an extreme performer that on one instance he played the guitar solo to one of his songs with his teeth.

On March 31st 1967, Jimi Hendrix attempted to burn his guitar onstage at London Astoria.  He suffered severe burns and was hospitalized, but the footage makes Hendrix an international icon. This would not be the only time he would attempt to burn his guitar either. The next time would be in the United States making those people who use to be skeptical about him become fans.

Images of him on stage burning his guitar have been made into posters and hang on the walls of many adolescents. It was even on the cover of Rolling Stone’s 20th anniversary issue.
