NFL legend Joe Montana announces that he will be retiring from football

For professional Sports athletes, all good things eventually come to an end. Players fight father time as their skills and talent diminish with each passing year.  And when legendary players are forced to retire, it is a bitter sweet day.

It was on this day, April 18th, 1995, that Joe Montana announced his retirement.  Regarded by many as the greatest NFL quarterback ever, Joe Montana made the announcement in front of a huge crowd at Justin Herman Plaza.

Tee event was broadcasted live on television, and it included a fantastic speech by NFL legend John Madden.  Bill Walsh, who coached the 49ers to 3 Super Bowl victories, was the host of the event.
