Jordan Scores 30,000th Point

There is not enough that can be said about Michael Jordan’s impact on the game of basketball. In his career, Jordan became an icon, known for breathtaking athleticism and an unmatched level of competitiveness.  While most of his time as a prolific scorer was completed in Chicago, Jordan was still effective toward the end of his career in Washington.

On this day, January 4th, in 2001, Michael Jordan eclipsed the 30,000 point mark while playing with the Wizards.  Only three previous players were able to reach 30,000 points in their career, which put Jordan in the company of NBA greats such as Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain.  Although well into his 30s, Jordan ended the 2001 season averaged 22.9 ppg.

Jordan played with the Washington Wizards for two more years, ending his career with 32,282 points, which averages out to more than 30 points per game.
