The San Diego Clippers move to LA and are called the Los Angeles Clippers

Los Angeles is a great city – the second most populated in the US.  For years, it had one professional basketball team – the Los Angeles Lakers.  But a professional basketball team in San Diego decided to move north – changing the sports in the city forever.

It was on this day, May 15th, 1984, that the San Diego Clippers moved north and became the Los Angeles Clippers.  The Clippers would play at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and they would struggle to find success.

While the Lakers were winning championships, the Clippers were struggling to make the playoffs.  In 1999, the Clippers would join the Lakers and play their home games at the newly opened Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.  The Clippers continued to get overshadowed and beat by the Lakers over the years
