Leafs forward Darryl Sittler sets the NHL record for points scored in a game with 10

Hockey is one of the lowest scoring sports we have.  In basketball, teams often eclipse 100 points.  In football, teams often surpass 30 points.  In baseball – a team with a few hot bats can score 10 runs or more.  But in hockey, it’s rare to see a team score in double digits.  When the red light goes on behind the net for a home team’s goal, the crowd explodes far more so then when a home team scores in a basketball game, for example.

It was on this day, February 7th, 1976, that Darryl Sittler tallied 10 points in one game.  Sittler was playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs and he had 6 goals and 4 assists against the Boston Bruins.

Later recognized as one of the greatest 100 hockey players ever, Sittler was an exciting player.  What makes this record even more special is the fact that while many players have had 8 points in a hockey game, no player has ever had 9.  Along with Wilt Chamberlin’s 100 points in a basketball game, Gary Sittler’s 10 points in a hockey game is a record that many say will never be broken.
