Lebron James: “The Decision” to leave Cleveland to play for the Miami Heat

Lebron James is from Cleveland, so when his hometown Cavs drafted him with the first pick of the NBA draft, it was a match made in Heaven.  However, after repeated failures in the NBA playoffs, Lebron considered playing with a team which had more stars around him.  When Lebron became a free agent, there was a frenzy surrounding whether Lebron would stay in Cleveland, play for the Knicks, or play for the Heat.

It was on this day, July 8th, 2010, that Lebron James announced on live television that he will be taking his talent to South Beach.  Lebron announced this on an ESPN show called “The Decision” which brought even more controversy to the situation.  Cleveland fans were appalled, as their most beloved athlete quickly turned into one of their most hated athletes.

In Lebron’s first season with the Heat, he led them to the NBA finals.  However, in the finals, Dirk Nowitsky and the Mavericks defeated them 4 – 2.  For many sports fans around the world, there was rejoice as the majority of people didn’t agree with Lebron’s decision to leave Cleveland and the way that he did it with “The Decision” definitely didn’t help himself in the PR department.
