3 months after announcing he had the HIV virus, Magic Johnson plays in the All Star game & wins the MVP.

When Magic Johnson announced that he had contracted the HIV virus, basketball fans around the would were crushed.  Millions of people loved watching Magic Johnson play basketball and they also cared for him as a person. After the announcement, many thought they’d never again see Magic play basketball.  Fortunately, this turned out to not be the case.

It was on this day, February 9th, in 1992, that Magic Johnson played in the NBA All-Star game.  Just 3 months after making the announcement, fans were surprised and excited to watch Magic play. What made the day even more special was Magic’s performance.  He hit several three pointers in the final minutes of the game to seal his All-Star game MVP award.

During the game, Magic went one on one against Isiah Thomas on one possession and Michael Jordan on another possession.  Anyone who was in the Orlando arena that night was captivated and inspired by the 25 point, 9 assist performance that Magic delivered.
