Beach-town Miami, Florida is incorporated.

Who hasn’t heard of Miami? Miami is one of the hottest hotspots, literally, in America. Even during the winter months of November-February, Miami’s cold temperatures rarely dip beneath 60 degrees. Summertime there is also beach season, but while temperatures rarely go above 90 degrees, it’s the humidity, which even the early explorers found out, that is the real killer.

On this day July 28th, in 1896, Miami, Florida is incorporated. Until the mid-18th century, the Tequesta Indian tribe inhabited the area – a hunter/gatherer culture, getting most of their diet from the sea. It was founded by Spanish explorers, who also colonized much the surrounding region, which became Latin America.

Miami’s metropolitan area is one of the largest in the U.S. with a population exceeding 5.5 million. The city proper itself is small with an area of 55 square miles and a population of 400,000. Miami also has a vibrant music scene with hundreds of dance clubs. This is one of the primary attractions for the 38 million people that pass through the city.
