Prince Charles marries his second wife Camilla Parker Bowles one day after a delay was made for Pope John Paul II’s funeral service

The family heirloom, Queen Elizabeth’s ring, was passed on to Camilla Parker as an engagement ring from Prince Charles.

On this day, April 9th, in 2005, Prince Charles marries his second wife Camilla Parker Bowles at Windsor Guildhall in Berkshire, England. The elderly couple Charles, 56, and Parker, 57, had both been married before and their marriage raised much controversy within the Church of England and resulted in a civil ceremony (non-religious, but legal marriage).

The wedding date was originally set for April 8th, but was postponed until the following day to allow the Prince of Wales and other dignitaries to attend both the funeral of Pope John II and the wedding. Unfortunately, Queen Elizabeth II did not attend the wedding, but she hosted a celebration ceremony afterwards.
