San Jose, California, is founded as el Pueblo de San Jos de Guadalupe. It is now considered the capital of famed technology hub Silicon Valley.

Think no further of the technological capital of the world than San Jose. While the term “NorCal”, short for Northern California, implies a laid back hippie like demeanor, this spot has things happening and is still chill. While San Jose’s initial purpose was agriculture to feed Spanish Troops, it certainly has come a long way.

On this day November 29th, in 1777, San Jose, California is founded. As a colony of Spain, it was originally called El Pueblo de San Jos de Guadalupe. As every area around San Jose had become developed, San Jose held off a little while until the 1950’s & 1960’s.

It was during the 1990’s – also known as the tech bubble or the dot com bubble – that San Jose became the essence of being a technology hub. Apple, Intel, IBM, Facebook, Google, SanDisk, Yahoo – and the list goes on for all the tech companies that are located in the area. San Jose is the third largest city in California, the largest in NorCal, and has several incredible universities in the area, including University of California Berkeley.
