Musician Steve Miller is arrested for setting fire to his girlfriend Benita Diorio’s clothing

Steve Miller became best known as the frontman of the popular 1960s and 1970s rock band Steve Miller Band. With the band, he released such hits as “Fly Like an Eagle” and “Take the Money and Run.” The group’s Greatest Hits 1974- 1978 album sold over 13 million copies.

On this day, April 4th, in 1975, Benita Diorio was fanning fumes in attempt to save her clothing from burning flames. When the police arrived at the Miller resident, Miller refused to be handcuffed and was charged with resisting arrest. Luckily, the charges were dropped the next day and Miller was set free. Diorio’s clothing, however, was gone with the wind.
