When Broadway Joe Namath guaranteed a Jets victory in Super Bowl III, people thought he was a fool. But after the Jets upset the Baltimore Colts in the big game, Namath’s guarantee became a part of history. Joe was beloved in New York, but with athletes, all great things eventually come to an end.
It was on this day, May 12th, 1977, that Joe Namath signed a contract with the Los Angeles Rams. Joe would leave the Jets after 11 memorable and exciting seasons.
Namath started out solid with the Rams, winning 2 of his first 3 games. But in the 4th game, he got banged up pretty bad, and he never played again in that season with the Rams. Namath would retire after that one season, never playing professional football again. In 1985, Joe Namath was elected into the Hall of Fame.
